A Custom Hard Hat

Here is a Custom Hard Hat I was commissioned to do.  It came to me as a regular white hard hat.  The customer explained  exactly what she wanted and the colors.  She had requested a car color metalflake silver for the top, so I had a friend that runs an auto paint store (Doyle Yeager at Parts & Paint in Barbourville, KY) to mix the color in an aerosol spray.  I then scuffed away the gloss with a ScotchBrite pad, cleaned it, then sprayed the helmet.  At that point I hand painted all the coal along the bottom and added the vinyl graphics for the lettering and logos.  I then sprayed a couple coats of automotive clear, also in an aerosol spray and the project was done.  The customer LOVED it!!!

A Recent Caricature Commission

A High School Golfer.  Sorry I didn't have the photo of the guy I used scanned in.  But trust me it looks just like him!

Graphite Pencil Portrait

I did this portrait for a customer as a Christmas gift for his niece.  This was his brother who would have been the lady's father.  The man was a former magistrate for Bell Co. Fiscal Court.  The customer brought me an old half toned election card from the 1970s to do this portrait.  It was a struggle getting the likeness.  I have that card saved digitally on another computer.  I'll post it with this again in the future.

John Wall Cat

I can't seem to get away from this thing of drawing Kentucky Basketball players as wildcat characters.  They just keep popping into my head.  Here I am with John Wall cat.  Maybe I'll do a 2012 calendar with some former famous players and coaches as wildcat characters.  Hmmmmm, my imagination has ignited once again!  Stay Tuned.

R.O.A.R. art

I was commissioned by Pineville Elementary School to come up with some art and a design for their new reading program.  Here is the original illustration.  Oh, by the way, I know you are wondering, "What is R.O.A.R?"  It stands for "Roll Over And Read."

First Blog Entry

Welcome to my NEW blog!
I plan to post at least once a week a unique project that I am working on.   I run a custom Sign Studio along with doing LIVE and commissioned caricatures, cartoon art, illustration, graphic design, and some pencil portraits.
I know that is a diverse amount of work, but basically I LOVE anything that is called art!  God has blessed me to be able to pick up most anything artistically.  I won't claim to be a "master" of any of them as I am always learning new things about each craft.  I have never had any formal training in any of the fields I work, with the exception as a sign crafter's apprentice at Craycraft Signs, in Lexington, KY about 20 years ago.
Maybe something I post in the future will inspire you, as many artists, cartoonists, and sign crafters have inspired me over the years and helped shape the artist I am.
To God be the Glory for my talent and the gift to be able to make a living doing something I love!
